Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Local Password Vault.

Getting Started

After purchasing (or signing up for the free trial), you'll receive an email with your license code. Download the app from our website (Windows, Mac, or Linux), install it, then enter the license code in the app. Create your master password and you're ready to go.

The app is straightforward—most people have it set up in under 5 minutes.

Yes! A free 7-day trial is available with full access to all features. No credit card required.

When you upgrade to a paid license, all your passwords and data stay intact.

Export your passwords from your current manager as a CSV file, then import them into Local Password Vault. Your data will be encrypted locally during import.

Important: Delete the exported CSV afterward since it contains unencrypted passwords.

Security and Privacy

Local Password Vault protects your vault with AES-256-GCM encryption. Your master password is processed using Argon2id key derivation with hundreds of thousands of iterations to create your encryption key.

Each vault has a unique salt, making every vault cryptographically independent.

No. I have no access to your vault. Your data is encrypted locally on your device using a key derived from your master password. I cannot see your password, access your encryption keys, or view any of your vault contents.

Important: For security reasons, I cannot recover or reset your vault. Your master password is the only way to decrypt and access your data.

Choose a strong but memorable master password and create encrypted backups regularly.

No. Local Password Vault runs 100% offline. After you download and install the app, everything happens locally on your machine. There are no servers, no telemetry, and no background data sharing.

Using Your Vault

You can export your vault for safekeeping at any time. I recommend maintaining an encrypted backup on a USB drive or external hard drive for optimal data protection.

Because Local Password Vault never touches the cloud, you're in full control of backup and recovery.

If your device is lost, your vault remains secure. All passwords are encrypted with AES-256 and can only be unlocked with your master password.

If you have a backup, you can restore your vault on a new device. If you lose both your device and backups, your data cannot be recovered—that's part of the trade-off for true local privacy.

The Floating Icon gives you quick access to your vault. It stays available on your desktop so you can copy and paste credentials without reopening the main window every time.

Pricing and Licensing

No. Local Password Vault is a one-time purchase. Pay once and own it forever. No subscriptions, no renewals, no hidden costs. Your license includes all future updates.

One license = one device. Each license is bound to a single machine.

If you need multiple devices, consider the Family Vault (up to 3 people, 3 license files in your email), or purchase additional Single Vault licenses.

A 30-day money-back guarantee is available on all purchases. If you're not completely satisfied, contact me within 30 days of purchase and I will process a full refund—no questions asked.

Local Password Vault is available for:

Windows: Windows 10 and Windows 11
Mac: macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and later
Linux: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and other major distributions
